Congratulations to 5th Year student Padraic Di Fusco who has been nominated in this year’s Bord Gáis Energy Student Theatre Awards for his performance in our 2014/15 production of  West Side Story!

Director Vicky Graham was also nominated for best director.With such a high calibre of competition and close to 3,000 entries from all over Ireland, it is a huge achievement to have made it this far. Congratulations to you both. The awards ceremony takes place on May 5th.

On Wednesday 20th April Ms McGann's two 2nd Year Business Studies classes enjoyed breakfast in the school canteen.  This event began with four excellent presentations by the students on local businesses. 

1st Year Trip to Dublin

On Wednesday, April 20th, a group of over eighty 1st Year students along with Bro Patrick Lennon OSA, Mrs Heather Foley, Ms Mgt McGrath and Mr Donal Williams set off to Dublin for the day. The students visited some very interesting historical sites including, Dublin Castle, The Garden of Remembrance and the GPO. In the afternoon the group travelled to Dundrum Shopping Centre which they really enjoyed. Many thanks to the staff members who made this trip possible for 1st Years.

Greenschools Recycling

The “Junk Kouture” Initiative, inspired by our Greenschools co-ordinator Ms Eileen Murphy whereby students were encouraged to design a fashion piece from recycled material. The results were pretty amazing. The eventual winner was Kellie Hamilton (2.2) with her “Little Mermaid” creation. The outfits were judged by Leaving Cert. student Dearbhla Skeehan who complimented all the participants and their assistants on the impressive collection of Junk Koutoure. Many thanks also to An tUas Pádraig Mac Craith (Art & Design Dept.)

DSC 0004Kitty Ross (2.4) travels to Spain during the summer to take part in the World Martial Arts Championship. Kitty won gold in the following disciplines; Creative Weapons, Traditional Weapons and Kata in the 13-15 age group at the National Championships held in Dublin on May 5th Well done Kitty and good luck in Spain.

The Spectroscopy in a Suitcase scheme is an outreach activity sponsored by the Royal Society of Chemistry which gives school students the chance to learn about spectroscopy through hands-on experience.

On April 4th last, the first meeting of the Friary STEM club took place in the chemistry lab. The club was set up by senior cycle science students who have an interest in STEM subjects – science, technology, engineering and mathematics, and meetings are chaired by Ms Fitzsimons.

On Wednesday May 25th a group of 58 2nd year Business Studies students visited Barron's Bakery in Cappoquin. Many thanks to Esther for the kind invitation and informative tour of her premises including the beautiful coffee shop. Students were accompanied by their teacher Ms McGann and Mr O’ Donovan.

As we come to the end of another academic year at St Augustine’s, I wish to extend my good wishes to all members of The Friary community. I hope you enjoy a very happy, safe and refreshing holiday. Hopefully the sun will continue to shine for the holiday period.

For those of you who are leaving, my very best wishes to you for the future

Remember, once a Friary student, always a Friary student!

For those returning, I look forward to seeing you all safe and well on your return in the autumn.
